The original text of this translation practice is the third and fourth chapters of Geology: A Complete Introduction, which mainly introduce the causes of earthquakes, earthquake prevention and its secondary disasters, structure and plate movement.Such science texts are supposed to enrich the readers' knowledge of geological structure, help them learn the root cause of earthquakes and enhance their consciousness of disaster prevention. It is hoped that the translation report will be of some reference value for the translation of science text.Guided by the theory of Reiss' s Text Typology, the translator adopts various translation methods such as the transformation, logic reshuffling, amplification and omission, lecixal cohension, conjunction cohension and discourse coherence with the purpose of settling the difficulties in the translation of technical terminologies, nominalized vocabulary as well as long and complex sentences concerning geological phenomena..The translation report is composed of four parts. The first part “Translation Task Description” introduces the source of the material, the background of its author and the significance of translating the text;the second part presents the translator's pre-translation preparation, the selection of translation theory and methods, the overview of difficulties in translation and post-translation check;the third part“Translation Case Analysis” expands on the difficulties in translation from three aspects: vocabulary, syntax and discourse;the fourth part is the summary of the translation practices, including the present author's reflection on the translation of science text and her personal outlook on the translation.
