A Report On Liaison Interpretation For 2019 World’s Got Talent From The Perspective Of Intercultural Communication

Nowadays,communications and exchanges among countries have been more frequent than ever before in the context of globalization.Therefore,the role of interpretation in economic,politic and cultural exchanges worldwide has become increasingly prominent.Liaison interpretation aims at helping people with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds to communicate across cultural barriers.The knowledge of different cultures,intercultural awareness and intercultural communication ability influence the interpretation quality,thus affecting the communication.Based on the intercultural communication theory,this report analyzes the liaison interpretation the author did for Hunan TV in April 2019,proving that raising intercultural communication awareness and using intercultural communication skills can efficiently improve the quality of interpretation and promote communications.This report is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the description of the interpreting task,including pre-task preparation,interpreting process,and client’s feedback.The second chapter is the theoretical framework,expounding the definition of intercultural communication and intercultural communication competence put forward by Larry A.Samovar.The third chapter consists of case studies,which analyzes the interpreting errors caused by lacking intercultural communication competence and the effective interpreting attributed to using intercultural communication skills.In this chapter,the author also lists interpreting methods applied,including addition,specification and free interpretation.The fourth chapter contains the summary and self-reflection on this task.Through analysis,this paper mainly draws the following conclusions: intercultural communication awareness and ability can directly affect the quality of liaison interpreting.In order to facilitate intercultural communications,the interpreter should adopt corresponding intercultural skills and interpreting methods.Hopefully,this paper can provide suggestions and references for similar tasks in the future.
