Since the 21st century,science and technology has continued to move forward and many remarkable achievements have made,which especially have reflected in the profound significance of the development of artificial intelligence(AI).The United States is a world leader in this field,and it is worth us Chinese to learn.The book of The Fourth Age—Smart Robots,Conscious Computers and the Future of Humanity was published by Atria Books,which is in The United States.From the perspective of the development of AI in the future,the content of this book involves the development of robots,the challenge of AI to human beings,and the life of human beings in the fourth age.Thus,the translator chooses chapters 20 to 26 of this book as the translation material and the content mainly includes whether computers will replace human beings,the invention of progress,human characteristics,and etc.The translator hopes this translation practice provides some reference information of AI for us Chinese readers.This translation report consists of five parts:The first part is an introduction to the translation project,which includes background,purpose and significance.The translator has also introduced the structure and the theoretical basis of the translation project,namely Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.The second part is an introduction to the source text,which includes the author,the content and its linguistic features.The third part describes the three processes of the translation practice,which are preparations before translation,while-translation and quality assurance.The fourth part is the case analysis and translation techniques used in this translation project.Case analysis consists of terminologies,long and complicated sentences and passive voice.Translation techniques are omission,addition and division.The fifth part lists limitation and implications from the practice of translation.This translation practice has exercised the translation ability of the translator,and she has further accumulated translation experience.Firstly,the translator has consolidated her translation skills and familiarized herself with the use of relevant translation theories,which are conducive to her further translation work.Secondly,this translation practice has strengthened the translator's attitude of patience and carefulness.Thirdly,the translator has known the professional knowledge in the field of AI and has broadened her horizons.Thirdly,the translator hopes that this translation project provides references for translators who work on the translation in AI field and researchers in China who study in this field.
