Nowadays,artificial intelligence(AI)and robots have gradually become the development trend of the current era.The application of AI has also penetrated into numerous fields and has produced huge amounts of economic benefits in practical applications.The source text of this practice report is selected from the eighteenth chapter of the book The Fourth Age: Smart Robots,Conscious Computers and the Future of Humanity.The chapter mainly introduces the definition of consciousness,how the consciousness emerges,whether the consciousness computer exists or not,and how to detect the consciousness.The thesis is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the translation task description,mainly talking about the source text,its author and the significance of the translation task.The second chapter is about the translation process,specifically the preparation,translation and proofreading.The third chapter analyzes the specific translation examples from words,sentences and background knowledge.At the word level,problems stem from background,terminology and word choices;at the sentence level,problems lie in Europeanized Chinese expression,the disorder of words and the shortage of background knowledge.The translation of words mainly uses such technique as conversion and meaning extension;the sentences translation mainly uses the strategy such as language order adjustment,division and combination;the translation of background information mainly uses the methods of adding comments.The fourth part is a reflection and summary of the translation practice,mainly summarizing the problems in the translation process and the methods to deal with them.
