In consecutive interpreting,note-taking is an important skill.Effective notes can help the interpreter to give better performance, while ineffective notes may have opposite effects. This paper takes the address made by Joseph Nye at the Oxford Union in 2018 as a case, analyzes note-taking problems in interpreting and then gives some coping strategies. The author combs through the notes taken in the interpreting and select some typical examples of note-taking problems. After analysis,it is found that there are mainly three categories of note-taking problem: 1.Lack of key information;2.Redundant notes;3.Improper layout.Causes behind can be sorted into two aspects.First is at the critical listening stage, the interpreter fails to allocate effort properly. And second is at the note-taking stage, the interpreter cannot use signs and symbols automatically. As a result, critical listening and note-taking cannot be coordinated well and even have negative influence on each other. Therefore, the author gives several coping strategies. The interpreter should improve the competency of critical listening and allocate more efforts to the logic of source text.Meanwhile, the interpreter should use more signs rather than words, and attach more emphasize on the layout of notes.
