Cause Of Logic Confusion And Strategies In English-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting

Interpretation is a process of interpreting logic.Logic is conveyed not only by particular words,but also between the lines.It lies in sentence structures,paragraphs and articles.If interpreters fail to notice and highlight them,they will face great diffficulty in delivering message and meaning to the audience.Apart from the challenge of logic itself,the difference between English,which focuses on sentence structure,and Chinese,which emphasizes on meaning,is also a barrier for interpreters.It requires interpreters to understand the logic in original language and output in another language in a certainly short period of time.Sometimes the process is not easy for a few logic messages cannot be simply detected and translated.In addition,listening,noting and attention allocating are all vital to ensure a smooth delivery of logic from one language to another.If an interpreter fails to pay attention to any of these,logic problems will occur.The writer analyses the cause of logic problems in the output from English to Chinese in mock conference of Will the Liberal International Order Survive.Misallocating of attention,inefficient notetaking,confusion about logic patterns and bad translating habits are four major causes of logic problems.Solutions of each cause are listed in the last chapter.Hopefully,this thesis can be helpful to practitioners and interpreting students who have encountered or may encounter similar difficulties in practice and training.
