Travel guidebooks are the major information sources used by tourists, giving professional advice on where to eat, sleep and sightsee in foreign lands. This thesis believes that the text of travel guidebooks have five characteristics, which may lead to the information errors that translators tend to make.By comparing the initial translation and the reviewed version, this thesis analyses how multimedia, such as maps, images, videos, and texts help translators connect words with real-world objects. The examples shown in this thesis illustrate how 2D map, which contains information that words do not carry, enables the translator to"orient" themselves in an alien space;how 3D map sets a real-world scene in which translator can have a sensory and cognitive processing of the information;how images visualize the things that the translator cannot imagine;how videos display the move of something unfamiliar.By contextualizing the original texts, these different types of multimedia resources, therefore, help translators make sure the translation is accurate and reliable.
