A Translation Report On Chinese New Year Culture

With the globalization of the world culture,the research on translation of Chinese Folk culture is significant in the new era.Based on the Project of Philosophical and Social Science from Tianjin Municipality in 2016,translation of Chinese New Year culture is resesarched,which is a necessary part of the project.The source text is made up of eleven chapters,presenting a comprehensive introduction to the customs of Spring Festival,including Offering Sacrifices to Kitchen God,Greeting the Supreme Deity of Taoism and Sweeping the Dust,etc.The difficulties mainly lie in the translation of culture-loaded words,folk idioms and folk legends,which is also the focus of the translation report.In order to produce a highly accepted target text,Skopos theory is employed to guide the translation practice together with the aid of modern translation technologies such as the localized website and corpus.Furthermore,the effective solutions to the translation problems are presented and the corresponding strategies are generally summarized.For the translation of culture-loaded words,literal translation strategy with footnotes and liberal translation strategy are employed to cope with the difficulties of lexical vacancy and semantic vacancy.For the translation of folk idioms,the methods of liberal translation strategy and cultural substitution strategy are adopted to deal with the problems caused by the differences between the customs and religions.As for the translation of folk legends,the methods of adaptation,fuzzy translation strategy and amplification strategy are employed to make structural adjustment,voice transformation and cultural compensation.In addition to this,COCA parallel corpus and CorelDRAW X7,the graphic and text processing software,are selected to indicate the authentic features of Spring Festival as well as the localization of the translated text.For the professional translators,it is necessary to learn modern technologies as well as improve the professional competence.Only in this way,can we effectively promote the transltion of folk cultre to make Chinese culture universally widespread.
