A Report On The Translation Of The Culture-Loaded Words In A Winning Betrayal （Excerpt） Under The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

Cultural exchanges among countries in the world are becoming increasingly frequent.As a means of cross-cultural communication,translation plays a vital role in cultural exchanges among countries.Nowadays,scholars are paying more and more attention to the translation of excellent foreign literary works.Literary works usually contain a large number of culture-loaded words,covering customs,religion,history and culture,etc.,which brings great difficulties to translation.Therefore,we should take appropriate translation strategies when translating culture-loaded words in literary works.Skopostheorie,the core translation theory of German functionalism,has been widely spread and applied since it was introduced into Chinese translation circle in 1980 s.Skopostheorie adheres to the three principles of skopos,coherence and fidelity,among which the purpose principle is its dominant principle.It emphasizes purpose-oriented,and aims to achieve equivalence between the source language and the target language.Therefore,Skopostheorie provides strong theoretical support for the translation of cultureloaded words in literary works.Guided by Skopostheorie,this paper takes the translation of culture-loaded words in the novel A Winning Betrayal as an example to explore the translation strategies of cultureloaded words in literary works.The first chapter mainly introduces the research background,research objectives and research significance of this paper.The second chapter analyzes the source text and its author,as well as the features and difficulties of the translation.The third chapter explains the task progress in the translation: pre-task preparation,translation progress and post-task control.The fourth chapter is the case analysis,demonstrating the translation cases of specific culture-loaded words with translation different strategies under the guidance of the three principles of Skopostheorie.Chapter five summarizes the translation strategies,translation methods and research findings in the process of translation,then points out the shortcomings of the research,and puts forward suggestions for further research in the future.
