With the “enterprise globalization” strategy, more and more China's information and communications enterprises and companies are entering the international market. As the information and communications field has the greatest demand for language service, studies on technical translation have become increasingly important.Based on a real C-E translation project of a user guide in an information and communications enterprise, the practice report lucubrates the source text, the target readership and the translation purpose, analyzes six typical translation problems and proposes six corresponding solutions under the guidance of Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory.Specifically, idiomatic translation solves the lexical problem of meaningless English equivalents for programmer idiolects;paraphrasing solves the lexical problem of incorrect literal translation of adjectives;addition solves the syntactic problem of information insufficiency;omission solves the syntactic problem of information redundancy;variation solves the textual problem of improper expression hurting target readers' feelings;and transcreation solves the textual problem of extremely lengthy paragraphs making target readers bored. After analyzing a lot of cases, the practice report has three main findings: 1)Newmark's communicative translation theory can effectively steer the translation of user guides;2)adequate technical knowledge reduces problems and errors in technical translation;and 3)technical translators should actively participate in the upstream links of technical writing and translating.
