Feminism And Poetics:A Study Of Kenneth Rexroth And Ling Chung’s Translation Of Li Qingzhao’s Poems | | Posted on:2020-11-02 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y S Bai | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2415330599461614 | Subject:Translation | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | The classical poems are the precious treasure of Chinese traditional culture.The researches on Li Qingzhao is not only an important part of Chinese literary history but also an indispensable section of the Chinese classical literature.The early translations of Li Qingzhao’s poems in China and western world and the researches on the translations of Li Qingzhao’s poems by many scholars are conducive to transmitting Li Qingzhao’s poems.However,the systematical researches on the translation of Li Qingzhao’s poems from feminism and poetics are rare.Therefore,on the basis of feminism and poetics,the thesis attempts to analyze and compare feminism and poetics in Li Qingzhao’s poems and their translation by Kenneth Rexroth and Ling Chung,aiming to explore the translatability of Chinese classical poems.Feminism in Li Qingzhao’s poems is conducted from the praise on body and the writing on desire,and feminism in the translation of Li Qingzhao’s poems is explored from the translation of the praise on body and the writing on desire.Poetics in Li Qingzhao’s poems is discussed from the auditory perspective(tone and rhythm)and the visual perspective(tune and form on long and short sentences),poetics in the translation of Rexroth and Ling Chung is analyzed from the translation of the auditory perspective(tone and rhythm)and the visual perspective(tune and form on long and short sentences).The conclusions drawn from the analyses indicate that imagery,tone,rhythm,tune and form on long and short sentences in Li Qingzhao’s poems aren’t fully expressed in the translated text by Rexroth and Ling Chung,which also shows the translation-resistance of Chinese classical poems.The thesis tries to bring feminism and poetics theories into the translation studies of Li Qingzhao’s poems and see the functions of these two theories in the poem’s translation.The thesis is divided into four sections with six chapters.The first section is Chapter One:Introduction.The second part is consisted of Chapter Two(Literature Review)and Chapter Three.Chapter Two provides the previous studies on the English translation of Li Qingzhao’s poems from the perspectives “Three Beauties” Principle and hermeneutics.Chapter Three is an introduction on theories involved in the thesis.The third part is Chapter Four and Chapter Five.Chapter Four is on a feminist analysis of Li Qingzhao’s poems and their translation.Chapter Five involves in a poetical analysis of Li Qingzhao’s poems and their translation.And the last section is concerned about conclusion. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Li Qingzhao’s poems, English translation by Rexroth and Ling Chung, feminism, poetics, comparative analysis | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
