On Kenneth Rexroth’s Poetics

Kenneth Rexroth,(Wang Honggong in Chinese)is a researcher full of multicultural and interdisciplinary thought and horizon.He is deeply influenced by the ancient Chinese poetry,Taoism and Buddhism culture,and recreated with oriental culture as the element.Rexroth created his own poetic view in the background of western and eastern culture.He objects to the “impersonal theory” advocated by T.S.Eliot.He believes that the connotation of poetry is “vision”,the innovation and creation of the inner experience of the poet,and poetic interactive communication between people.From the poetic form of expression,he attaches importance to the musicality of words and structure of the poem.Rexroth’s active study and diffusion of Chinese poetics and his recreation of eastern culture,have not only influenced American literature,but also provided precious treasure for the development of Chinese culture and poetics.But his research was stated relevantly late in our country,and most people focused on the translation of his works,therefore,his poetics and poetic values are worth further study.Studying on Kenneth Rexroth’s recreation of east poetics,his unique poetics based on the east and west cultural background and his deficiency,this paper attemtps to find Kenneth Rexroth’s poetical value and role.
