This article makes use of western major and minor music,takes college students of science & technology,humanities & society and art as research objects.It focuses on the influence of western major and minor music on spatial imagination.Two behavior experiments are included in this research.The first experiment aims on exploring emotional effect which is produced by western major and minor music(emotional titre and awakening degree).Sixty internal college students are chosen for experiment.Their majors are on science & technology,humanities & society and art.Thirty boys and thirty girls are included.The experiment shows 12 pieces of western major and minor music.Each piece of music lasts thirty seconds.Different tested experimental index are recorded by E-Prime program.The result shows the first experiment’s main effect is remarkable by chosing western major and minor music.The tested students’ emotional titre is significantly different.In specific,major music brings out the tested students’ positive emotion.The minor music brings out negative emotion.The emotional titre of major music is significantly higher than that of minor music.On the other hand,the result of first experiment do experimental verification on non-cultural specificity view of emotional induced effect from western music.Besides,the result shows the induced effect of emotional awaken degree from western music is significant.In specific,the awaken degree of major music is significantly higher than that of minor music.The result is the same with Justin’s research result.The second experiment research if western major and minor music can temporarily improve spatial imagination level on the base of the first experiment by chosen internal college one hundred and twenty students whose average age is 20.63(SD=1.35).There are sixty girls and sixty boys.The number of students of science & technology,humanities & society and art is forty for each major.ROT spatial imagination test questionnaire is used to record test data.The test shows that major music can temporarily improve spatial imagination level.But listening minor music can temporarily decrease spatial imagination level.Variance analysis result shows the main effect of major is remarkable.Engineering category students get the highest point,next is Humanities and social sciences,student of artcategory get the lowest point.The point of imagination is remarkably different among the three major.The main effect is remarkable.The point of imagination of major music is remarkably higher than that of minor music.Besides,the result shows that the main effect and interaction effect of gender factor is not remarkable.Experiment result.Major music induces positive emotion and minor music induces negative emotion.Major music induces higher emotional awake degree than minor music.Positive emotion can temporarily improve the tested student’s spatial imagination level.Negative emotion can temporarily decrease their spatial imagination level.Spatial imagination level of students from science and engineering by inducing positive emotion is higher than that of students from humanities and arts.This article works as basic research.The research result helps teacher improve spatial imagination level of students in the course of teaching,improve teaching efficiency,strengthen the student’s realization on regularity and importance of spatial imagination.At the same time,it helps teacher to apply targeted teaching method during working to improve student’s cognitive ability.
