Director’s Statement For The Documenetary Riders In The Metropolis

The rapid development of the Internet has influenced all aspects of Chinese people’s life.The Internet plus has become people’s way of thinking,lifestyle and consumption patterns.Ordering take-out food by using the Internet is a form of it and has become more and more accepted by Chinese urbanites.The development and growth of this kind of consumption pattern has made more and more riders participate in the takeaway industry.Millions of riders are mostly from rural areas,they are very eager to live in the city which they have been longing for,each of them wants to find their own living space in the takeaway market.The development of the city cannot be separated from the hard work of these riders.They may be ordinary but indispensable,they have worked so hard but also have been controversial.They are practitioners at the bottom of society,they don’t earn much money although they work very hard.They came to Shanghai with great hopes,however,it’s so difficult for them to settle down here.From this angle,this film recorded the daily life of the riders and the stories behind them.The three main characters recorded in this film,Song Lefang,Shi Ling and Wang Wan are one of them.They came to Shanghai from their hometown,brought convenience to the metropolis and wanted to realize their dreams with their hard work.I haven’t found any documentary film completely focusing on riders so far.So I decided to give it a try,to truly unfold the daily work status of riders and the stories behind them from both their work and life.I hope that our society,the city and each of us will give them the attention they deserve.
