This paper is a report on translation practice.The translation practice selected Eight Chapter Emotion and Consciousness of Embodiment and Cognitive Science as the source text.Written by Raymond W.Gibbs(Jr.),a renowned professor of psychology,the selected text profoundly expounds the development and research of Embodiment and Cognitive Science from the perspective of emotion and consciousness.Academic texts are characterized by many technical terms and meticulous logic in their expression.Apart from those characteristics,the source text has many descriptions of the experimental process and situational descriptions.The cultural background knowledge mentioned in the source text is also abundant.And for achieving the optimal cognitive relevance between the source text and the target text,Relevance Translation Theory is adopted as the theoretical guidance in this report.According to Relevance Translation Theory,translation is a communicative process of interpreting the source text.The contextual effect is related to the concise interpretation of the source text and the accurate elaboration of the target text.Through this translation practice,this report explains that the core factor to achieve the optimal relevance between the source text and the target text is the context.By analyzing linguistic,situational and cultural context,this report illustrates how academic text translation achieving the optimal relevance by the enhancement of contextual effect.This report elaborates on specific translation methods for enhancing contextual effects in academic text translation,such as adding,converting and splitting.The analysis of the source text and the adoption of specific translation methods are helpful to achieve the optimal relevance between the source text and the target text.This report covers five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly introduces the background of the translation task,the description of the task and its significance.The second part is a brief introduction and elaboration of the theoretical framework chosen for the translation practice.The third part is the source text analysis,which discusses the linguistic,situational and cultural characteristics of the selected text.Chapter Four describes case analysis.It illustrates how to achieve optimal relevance in the specific translation cases.The fifth part is summary.In this part,major findings of this translation practice and the limitation of the report will be explained.
