The Research Of Modal Adverbs In Li Yu's Simulating Vernacular Novels

Li Yu's(??)simulating vernacular novel is the representative work of the vernacular short stories in the early Qing Dynasty.It consists of 30 stories,which are included in three books:Wushengxi(???),Lianchengbi(???)and Shi'erlou(???).Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels often take the characters of the city as the protagonists,describe the vulgar things,have a strong oral color,truly reflect the language style of the early Qing Dynasty,and have high linguistic research value.This paper takes Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels as the basic corpus and takes the 123 modal adverbs as the object of investigation.It classifies and explores the modal adverb system of the whole book,at same time,it selects some modal adverbs to carry on the case study.The thesis is divided into four chapters:Chapter one,introduction.This paper introduces the main contents and editions of Li Yu's novel,briefly reviews the research status of Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels and modal adverbs,discusses the scope,definition and classification of modal adverbs,and determines the classification of modal adverbs in this paper.This paper points out the research significance and method of Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels,and finally explains the corpus used in this paper and the stages of Chinese history.Chapter two,a study on the classification of the modal adverb system in Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels.Referring to the study of the former sages,this chapter divides the modal adverb system of Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels into three categories:emotional evaluation,cognitive attitude and verbal behavior.At the same time,using corpus and dialect materials,this paper investigates the origin and development of the modal adverb,focusing on the emergence of the modal adverb in modern Chinese.The third chapter is a case study of the modal adverbs in Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels.The first and second sections of this chapter select two modal adverbs active in modern Chinese,Guaidao(??),Xide(??),explore the origin and evolution of Guaidao(??)and Xide(??);The third section discusses the origin and evolution of the modal adverbs of Zong X(?X),reveal the richness of the source of modal adverbs.The fourth section probes into the formation of the investigation meaning of Weishi(??)and the related adverb.Chapter four,conclusion.This paper summarizes the characteristics of modal adverbs in Li Yu's simulating vernacular novels.We find that the modal modal adverbs of Li Yu's novels have the following characteristics: The modern era is mainly emerging,the common language and dialect coexists;the semantic category is rich,the high frequency adverbs are polysemy;the source is intricate and the personality difference is obvious.
