Study On Alice Munro’s Feminism Views In Her Short Stories

Alice Munro is the first great female short story writer who received the Nobel Prize in Canada.She shows great concern for women and most of the protagonists in her works are females.Among many excellent works,her three famous stories Boys and girls,The beggar maid,and Runaway are selected as the research texts.Based on the feminist theories,through analyzing the heroines in different age groups,this dissertation explores the main feminism views reflected in her short stories.Meanwhile,it helps readers to have a better understanding of Munro’s works and enrich relevant feminism theories as well.Firstly,there is a detailed introduction to Alice Munro and the literature review is followed.Secondly,the three stages of feminist movement are introduced completely and her works with typical features corresponding to each stage of feminist movement are analyzed,which demonstrates that Munro are deeply influenced by feminism and she is a feminist writer.Then,in the main part,through the experiences of protagonists in this three stories,the depression and discrimination they suffer in this patriarchal society are revealed,and the awakening of female consciousness and the struggle for seeking selfidentity are included.What’s more,in the part of discussion,based on the feminist theory and the analysis of the texts,the dissertation explores deeply the feminism views of Alice Munro in the works and draws the following conclusions: It is patriarchal society that creates an imbalanced relationship between males and females.Females suffer from gender discrimination,and they have never stopped seeking for their own identities.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 75...
