Alice Munro is the thirteenth female writer in the history of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and she is known as “master of the contemporary short story".Munro's writing embodies her strong insight, compassion and the ability to grasp the characteristics of characters extensively. However,Munro bears no personal evaluation on the characters she writes about, and she is regarded as "modern Chekhov".As a female writer,Munro pays close attention to the life experience of ordinary women. Her works usually take women as the main characters, and she is good at grabbing fragments of women's lives to observe their living conditions and explore the rich inner world of women.Among the existing research results, there are few studies on Munro's works from the perspective of postmodern feminism. In addition, most of the researchers are confined to Runaway and Lives of Girls and Women, which can not reflect the prevalent postmodern feminist ideas in Munro's works well.In this regard, the thesis will break through these limitations and analyze the prevalent postmodern feminist consciousness in Munro's short story collection Dear Life. The thesis aims at analyzing the general postmodern feminist consciousness in Munro's works, and choosing Dear Life, which is considered as Munro's richest, perfect and most individualized short story collection.Based on the literary criticism theory of post-modern feminism,we discuss the post-modern feminist thoughts embodied in the collection from two levels respectively. The first level emphasizes the differences and diversity among women and at the same time insists on the important role of "female subject".The second level deconstructs the logic of binary opposition and constructs a pluralistic and differentiated female world and a new female discourse power system.Chapter three and four are the main contents of this thesis. The diversity of women, feminine individuality and the difference theory of postmodern feminism in Dear Life are discussed in the thesis. It also focuses on the pluralism of discourse power in Dear Life, the thesis discusses the significance of coexistence of pluralistic discourse from two aspects: the "disciplinary gaze" under patriarchy and the construction of new women's discourse power. The conclusion summarizes the full text and discusses the diversity among women and the coexistence of pluralistic discourse. It highlights the main idea of postmodern feminism in Dear Life that advocates a female world characterized by pluralistic differences. On the one hand, this study deepens the understanding of Munro's works and provides a new perspective for the study of Munro's works. On the other hand, the post-modern feminist view of difference and the idea of establishing a new discourse power system are of great practical significance to our times. It stimulates women to think differently about "difference","diversity" and "female discourse",and has positive significance for women to reflect on their own situation.
