In 1950 s,a current of postmodernism had a marked impact on the whole western culture.Different from modernism which looks forward to building a unified, eternal, objective and orderly Utopia,Postmodernism refuses to give the world any meaning.Postmodernism is devoted to deconstructing the central culture since the age of Enlightenment, negating the single view and emphasizing the equal dialogue as well as the respect of difference. As an important part of postmodernism, the postmodern feminism absorbs and draws support from the theory of postmodernism. It emphasizes that the woman today needs to envisage the special nature of their own,and obtain the gender culture which would be equal to male on the premise that the female would be independent of the society of male chauvinism.Under the background ofpostmodern feminism,Alice Munro expresses the female's identity confusion in the society under phallocentrism and her view on the gap between two genders. The thesis will be divided into four chapters: Chapter I states the main critical views on Alice Munro and her works home and abroad, and then elaborates the importance and the innovation point of the thesis based on the theory of postmodern feminism.Chapter II is about the key concept of the postmodern feminism, such as the identity and the postmodern psychology. On the basis of two theories, the thesis is trying to find out the conjunction point of the theory and the text.Chapter III and Chapter IV are the core of this thesis, digging out from Alice Munro's worksthe identity and postmodern psychology, her understanding of female's identity confusion and philosophy about life.
