Translation Goes to the Movies is an academic work of Michael Cronin,an Irish scholar,on translation activities in films and the influence of translation on films.Guided by the skopos theory,the translator translates the fourth chapter of this book——The long journey home: Lost in Translation to Babel.It is intended to demonstrate the guiding significance of Skopos theory for translation and enrich the translator’s translation experience in practice,and to help those who want to understand the impact of translation on movies,The translator hopes to provide some references for the translation of informative texts.Based on the purpose of translation,the translator uses Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance,and adopts translation methods such as literal translation,free translation,amplification,and conversion.On the basis of original text,the translator tries to conform to the reading habits of Chinese readers.This paper makes a case study on the lexical and sentence levels involved in the translation process.The translator strictly abides by the three principles of Skopos theory and uses translation methods flexibly.In the practice of translation,some translation experiences are also summarized.In this translation practice,the translator believes that the guiding role of translation theory can not be ignored.Translation theory is the premise of choosing translation methods and techniques,and has the role as sweep down irresistibly from a commanding height.In order to improve my translation level,in addition to a large number of translation practices,the translator also needs to improve language and culture literacy,in order to make the translation process smoother,and the translation results are more in line with the guiding requirements of skopos theory.Figure0;Table0;Reference 25...
