A Study On Dong Qichang’s Facsimile Of The Four Great Calligraphers’ Work In Northern Song Dynasty

In this paper,I take Dong Qichang’s facsimile of the Four Great Calligraphers’ work in Northern Song Dynasty as the object of the study.By analyzing the existing work of Dong’s facsimile,I conclude that Dong’s facsimile plays a bridge role in catching up with the calligraphers in the Wei and Jin Dynasties during the process of his calligraphy study,enabling his calligraphy to express his own ideas on the basis of his calligraphy system.He advocated his ideas in facsimileing the work of the Four Great Calligraphers to seize the spirit of the work instead of describing the appearance,make necessary changes when learning from the ancients,and write naturally,showing his creative concept of “seeking common ground in differences”.Therefore,we should pay more attention to Dong Qichang’s work to gain new understanding in the creation work of contemporary calligraphy.
