As a key figure in the history of calligraphy,Dong Qichang's influence is huge.As one of the scholars learning from Dong,Dan Dang is different from most imitators. His unique experience makes him gradually independent from the early period of "imitating directors" and form a unique style of writing.Comparing to the abstract life of Dong and Dan in four parts: life course,Zen experience, book learning concept and specific works,we can draw the following points: in the life course, although Dong and Dan both test merit and fame and take an official career,Dong Qichang lives in a stable era.He advances and retreats as an official, and his official career is relatively accessible, while Dan lives in the changing generation of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. He is Ambitious but ineffective. In terms of Zen experience,Dong and Dan both participated in Zen and worshipped Buddhism and introduced Zen theory into art. However,in dealing with Zen,Dong Qichang was active but Dan was passive. For the understanding of Zen,Dong Qichang was beautiful and exquisite, while Dan was simple and thorough; In terms of the concept of learning calligraphy, they attach importance to learning from famous woks, because Dong Qichang is in a high position,he can see many treasures and famous works. Therefore,he has the idea of "comparison".Dandang lives in the southwest, keeps company with Buddha, makes friends with nature, and feels new knowledge from daily life.Although they have different ways, they both realized the leap from "imitating the past" to "Epiphany",and finally formed a unique style of writing; In the comparison of specific works, the characteristics of their calligraphy style are obvious. In terms of brushwork,Dong Qichang is good at expressing delicate expression, but Dan likes austere one.In terms of composition,Dong Qichang's works are comfortable and bright as a whole, but Dan's works contrast strongly,Dong Qichang's expression is gentle and elegant, while Dan's expression is straightforward and uninhibited.Through a series of analysis and comparison between Dong Qichang and Dan,the author not only has a certain understanding of calligraphy creation, but also pays more attention to cultural origin and aesthetic style. The author appreciates calligraphy works and pays attention to the humanistic value behind them.
