Research On The Women’s Marriage In The Northern Dynasty

After the establishment of the Northern Wei Dynasty by Tuoba,the Northern Dynasties has been a political power under the rule of ethnic minorities over two hundred years.Influenced by the social environment,the marriage of women in this period has the characteristics of Hu Han mixed.Before the establishment of the Northern Wei Dynasty,the Tuoba Xianbei people were still in the clan society and lived on the grassland nomadic life.Therefore,the status of the Xianbei women was correspondingly higher.With the development of the feudalization process,the wedding funeral system was reformed and the warriage hierarchy was implemented by Emperor Xiaowen.The marriage hierarchy system provides legal guarantee for the marriage of the women from upper class and the ethnic minorities.In the Northern Dynasties,the establishment of the national political power is a process of blending the Han and minority cultures.More importantly,the national integration embodied in the construction of a nation will provide conditions for the exchange of national culture of the next regime.In the context of this social background,firstly,the marriage of the Princess of the Northern Wei Dynasty was influenced by the political situation: they were mainly married with the different family aristocrats of the Northern Wei Dynasty before the reform of Emperor Xiaowen.After the reform of Emperor Xiaowen,they mainly married the upper class families.The marriage of the princesses of the Northern Qi and the Northern Zhou Dynasty is mainly the upstart of the six towns and the Xianbei army.Secondly,the marriage objects of the Northern Wei Dynasty’s nine surnames of the same clan are mainly ethnic minority aristocrats.The females of the eight families of the official with meritorious records are mostly married to the royal family.The marriage objects for the different aristocratic women in the Northern Qi Dynasty and the Northern Zhou Dynasty was mainly a member of the royal family.Finally,A detailed statistics of the intermarriages of Qinghe Cui’s,Fanyang’s and Longxi’s Li’s women in the form of charts are made by this paper.On the one hand,affected by the reform of Emperor Xiaowen,the women of the family mainly married to the the Yuan and the Wei Dynasty’s royal clan.On the other hand,influenced by the concept of the family status,the intermarriage of the upper class women is particularly concerned with the near-region and the high family status.In short,the marriage of Han and ethnic minority women has the characteristicof openness,politics and diversity.These characteristics make the marriage of women inthe Northern Dynasty a contradictory unity and play a certain role in promoting the marriage patterns evolution in the Middle Ages.
