Between Qin Dynasty and Wei-Jin Dynasty is the Han, including East-Han and West-Han Dynasty. During this era, marriage custom which based on li had been turning into a new style with the primary stage abandoned, which means marriage culture in ancient time was gradually transformed into mediaeval style. Generally speaking, the marriage culture of Han Dynasty was marked by the development of society. Firstly, the background of families was emphasized to play a more important role in forming husband-wife relationship. Furthermore, the concept of marriage was more closed than was it in the previous time. Last but not least, the status of women in families was increasingly declined. This paper also explores reasons of this situation. The rebuilt hierarchy and manorial economy, which was newly formed, the annexation of land and doctrine of li, all as above contributed to this matter.
