Muiti-dimensional Narration Of Paper Book Design

In the information era,people are facing a massive flow of fast food-like information,and technology increases the efficiency of receiving information but lowers the quality of it.As a paper medium to transmit information,paper book also has artistic aesthetic characteristics as a created material beauty in addition to instrumental attribute.In the long history of paper book,people habitually develop a one-way thinking model of plane form and design of the book but lack a multi-dimensional grasp of its physical presentation.This article introduces the concept of “multi-dimensional narration” to the design of paper book and tentatively discusses the functions and characteristics of multi-dimensional narrative language in the overall design.Moreover,this articles guides practice with theory,seeks the starting point for the book design of Zijian Zaoben in the context of the logic of the formation of Chinese character,consults literature,sorts information,edits content,constructs narrative clues,visually redesigns information,observes and studies expressive effects of narrative language in each dimension based on physical characteristics of the book,and sums up the principles of constructing multi-dimensional narration in practice.Specifically,chapter two discusses the theoretical basis and definition of multidimensional narration in paper book.It expounds on the definition and origin of narration,the involvement of the concept of narration in book design,the concept of multi-dimensional narration in the book and other aspects;chapter three as key theory part of this paper mainly proceeds from threefold multi-dimensional concept.First,multi-dimensional narrative language,namely expounding on the functions of each narrative language,namely features,under two-dimensional,three-dimensional and four-dimensional division models.Second,multi-dimensional narration in reading experience,namely physical space and abstract space in reading behavior and reading experience featuring space-time interaction in reading behavior.Third,awareness ofmulti-dimensional narration,namely rational editing and affective expression in the process of constructing narrative content,and the conversion between rationality and sensibility;Chapter four focuses on elaborating on the design practice,namely the process of constructing multi-dimensional narration in the book design of Zijian Zaoben,decomposition and organization of narrative theme and positioning and reconstruction of narrative language,and sets up the information framework of the book design of Zijian Zaoben in the process of sorting and constructing the theme,trying to sum up the principles of constructing multi-dimensional narration in book design on this basis;Chapter five is about the physical presentation of multi-dimensional narration in the book design of Zijian Zaoben,specifically,conducting formal expression of book in content building at the early stage of design;Chapter six sums up and points out limitations and expectations of this study.We hereby pursue integration and unification of inside and outside,content and form,style and expression of the book with orderly narrative content,systematic editing logic as well as formal beauty of the book,enabling the book,a physical medium carrying information,to convey information more effectively in its own narration and displaying the artistic charm of the book.Meanwhile,we reflect on the value,significance and cultural implication contained in the development of book design today in the context of the information era,conform to diverse ways of reading,meet aesthetic needs of people,and bring book design more diversity and more choices.
