The Study On The Asymmetry Of Orientation Compositions "Inside" And "Outside"

Inside and outside are a group of orientation words indicating opposite spatial orientations.Inside means that in certain space,and outside means out of certain space.The orientation components inside and outside also express opposite meanings.There are symmetrical phenomena between them,such as internal cause and external cause,in ten meters and out of ten meters.At the same time,there is an asymmetric phenomena between the two.For example,there is in guilt but no out of guilt.And we can say that within two days but not outside two days.This paper classifies and describes the symmetry and asymmetry of inside and outside by combining quantitative and qualitative analysis,and explains the asymmetry of inside and outside from the inside and outside of language.Chapter I and Chapter II divide inside and outside into two cases: inside + X and outside + X,and X + inside and X+ outside,respectively discussing their symmetry and asymmetry.The asymmetry of inside +X and outside +X is mainly reflected at the lexical level,while the asymmetry of X+ inside and X+ outside is mainly reflected at the phrases and pragmatics level.At the same time,according to Chu Zexiang's classification of the relationship between subject and object,the transformation of the azimuth construction X is in Y and Y is outside of X is discussed.It is found that the azimuth construction X is in Y and Y is outside of X can not be converted to each other.On the basis of the analysis of the phenomenon of orientation compositions inside and outside asymmetry,Chapter III and Chapter IV respectively analyze the reasons for the phenomenon of orientation compositions inside and outside symmetry and asymmetry from the internal and external of language.When expressing the spatial orientation meaning,the inside and outside are symmetrical in most cases,which is determined by the basic meaning of inside and outside;When expressing metaphorical meaning,the asymmetry of orientation compositions inside and outside is caused by the asymmetry of metaphorical scope.At the same time,the constraints of word formation factors and the differences of people's cognition,the habits of language expression and the influence of traditional culture will cause the asymmetry of orientation compositions inside and outside.
