Asymmetry Research For Pairs Of Antonymic Verbs With Positive And Negative Significance

This thesis selects pairs of Antonymic Verbs which show the positive and negative significance as subjects in the study, we try to from Chinese and English two angles to do the Cross-language Studies. This paper detailed examines asymmetry about pairs of antonyms in morphology and syntax, and explained deeply the reasons from inside and outside of the language. At morphology Asymmetry level, pairs of antonyms mainly reflected in amount and frequency. At syntax level, reflected in Causative usage of adjective and Verb-object structure and Resultative Constructions. The asymmetry has some qualities in common that is they have their own special mark.There are many methods to replace asymmetry of pairs of Antonymic Verbs,for exemple, positive words plus modus tollens express opositive meaning,negtive words plus modus tollens express neutral meaning, and ironic strategy also can show the opositive meaning by positive words.English pairs of antonymic verbs also have asymmetry,multiple realizabicity and materiality have a deep influence to English pairs of antonymic verbs,there are asymmetry usually express that object is infinitive or agerund.These asymmetry study can help us know antonymy better, and promote ours consideration about teathing Chinese as a second language in antonymic verbs. This thesis concluded some scientific testhing principle and effective teathing methods, serve for specific teathing practical activity.
