The source text is extracted from The Chinese Tao of Business written by George T.Haley,Usha C.V.Haley and Chin Tiong Tan.This book examines the ancient Chinese philosophy Taoism from a western perspective, explores the embodiment of Taoist thoughts in Chinese business culture and provides effective business strategies for western enterprises longing to succeed in Chinese market. The book is economically professional with loads of management and business terms;Yet,it never fails to interest readers by explaining economic phenomena and financial cases in a concise and humorous way.Reproducing this witty and charming language style presents a challenge to the translator. Therefore, the translator decided to adopt translation compensation strategies to compensate for the loss caused by the differences between the two languages. Many scholars at home and abroad have conducted research on translation compensation and proposed different compensation strategies. The author chooses the most common and appropriate strategies to translate the source text.Regarding compensation in translation, the thesis discusses compensation strategies from the lexical level, syntactic level and cultural level.Translation loss and its corresponding compensation methods are discussed in case studies to verify the feasibility of compensation strategies in translation practice.Based on the translation process and products, the author draws the following conclusions: Firstly, nine compensation strategies elaborated in the thesis can effectively avoid unnecessary information and effect losses during the translation process.Translators must fully consider the characteristics of the linguistic and cultural elements in two languages and use compensation strategies flexibly.Secondly, compensation strategies at the lexical and syntactic level are more frequently used in the translation of informative texts than those from the cultural level.Footnotes are widely employed in this target text to explain cultural information and technical terms.
