| Translation is an activity that one language is translated to another.However,due to the restrictions of language structure and culture differences,loss is inevitable in the process of translation.Therefore,compensation serves as an indispensable strategy in exact translation.This thesis tends to discuss and analyze the application of translation compensation in the author’s translation practice on the basis of semantic dimension and cultural dimension,so as to raise more awareness of the necessity of translation compensation to the translation circles.The source texts are extracted from The Economist magazine,the year of 2017,covering business,finance and technology news topics.As these news texts are written with simplified contents and wit language,it is a real challenge to reflect the wit and charm language style of the original texts during translation.So it is necessary for the translator to adopt compensation in the course of translation,accompanied by applying certain compensation methods and techniques.A detailed report has been conducted on loss and compensation strategies in typical examples cited from the author’s translation practice.In order to integrate theory with practice,the translator studies and summarizes several compensation techniques from the previous researches conducted by influential translators and linguists both at home and abroad.To put it into specific,those compensation techniques include specification,amplification,domestication,shift of expression,annotation within the text and annotation without the text.The author approaches the conclusion to the indispensable role of compensation during translation practice. |
