Female virtue education in China has a history of more than two thousand years.It is a unique system of education and moral cultivation in traditional Chinese society dominated by men.Chinese traditional female virtue education is based on Confucianism.However,Master Yinguang,the representative of modern Buddhism,put forward different ideas of female virtue education from Confucianism.Master Yinguang is one of the four great monks in modern China.His thoughts and social activities have exerted an important influence on modern Chinese Buddhist circles and even the whole Chinese society.His thought of "female virtue education" occupies an important position in his whole ideological system.Master Yinguang’s thought of female virtue education is based on his Buddhist thought,and draws on and inherits the elements of the traditional Confucian thought of female virtue education.According to Master Yinguang,"Women exercise more than half of the power of governing the country and the world." Women’s career has very important social value,has a great contribution to the whole society,and has more dominance over the social disorder.Women and men have different talents and abilities,which make their respective division of labor and responsibilities different.Women’s main career is family affairs,especially family education,which determines women’s contribution to society.In order to cultivate virtuous women,society needs to attach importance to the education of female virtue.Only with virtuous girl can we have a good wife and mother in the future.Therefore,the main object of female virtue education is girls at home,and it is very important to teach girls.The core content of female virtue education is to clarify and practice the duties in family affairs,especially the responsibility of educating children.Master Yinguang put Buddhist thought throughout theeducation of female virtue,believing in karma as the key point of female virtue,and chanting Buddha for living in Pure Land as the ultimate destination of female virtue.Master Yinguang’s thought of female virtue education is based on Buddhist standpoint,which highlights the distinct characteristics of the integration of Confucianism and Buddhism,and embodies the characteristics of the combination of religion and secularity,which is to say,he integrated Buddhist content into the activities of female virtue and female virtue education,a kind of secular life.From a specific point of view,Master Yinguang’s thought of women’s virtue education has a profound idea of equality,especially the affirmation of women’s rights and social values,and attaches great importance to the Buddhist thought of good and evil cause and effect.Master Yinguang’s thought of female virtue education has an important historical position in the history of the development of Chinese Buddhism and even in the history of China.It further promoted the Sinicization and secularization of Buddhism,perfected the specific application of Buddhist thought in ethics and morality,and also promoted the improvement of social morality at that time.Master Yinguang’s thought of female virtue education also has enlightenment significance for today’s social life,and has certain contemporary value.
