Translation Practice Report Of A Tale Of Three Cities-ISTANBUL

This paper is a translation project report.The translator chose chapter 27,28 and some illustrations from A Tale of Three Cities—ISTANBUL by British historian Bettany Hughes as the object of this translation practice.The book mainly introduces the vicissitudes of Istanbul,where different people,different nationalities,different rulers and different cultures collide and develop their brilliant culture.This thesis mainly uses Katharina Reiss' s text typology,the founder of German functionalist translation theory,as the theoretical guidance for translation.Text type theory divides the source text into four types: Informative text,Expressive text,Operative text and Auditory media text.A Tale of Three Cities—ISTANBUL belongs to the popular science type of historical text,which is mainly informative text and expressive text,with a little operational text as the auxiliary mixed text.In the process of translation,the tries to ensure the faithfulness of the translation with the aim of accuracy,conciseness and smoothness.At the same time,ensure the target language and the source language should be consistent with content,conforms to Chinese expression.For problems encountered with the translation process: proper nouns,culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences and so on.This paper has adopted different translation methods,such as intro annotation,amplification,literal translation,free translation,division translation and domesticating translation,etc.,to ensure that conveys the information of the source language accurately,conforms to Informative text and Expressive text the idiomatic expression characteristics.Through the translation practice,the conclusion is that the application of theoretical guidance and strategies for translation depends on the stylistic features of the source texts.Figure 3;Table 0;Reference 33...
