| Under the background of the Key Competencies in English Discipline,the 2017 edition of the General English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools establishes the core element of “Cultural Character”,which is a major breakthrough in the orientation of the value of education in the English curriculum.This concept not only further enriched the connotation of “culture” in English curriculum,but also put forward higher requirements for the culture teaching.Therefore,from the perspective of Cultural Character,it is extremely necessary to consider the current situation and existing problems of current culture teaching in senior high school English class,and try to propose some effective strategies.Based on many researches done by a lot of researchers and experts about the Cultural Character and culture teaching,in this thesis,the author conducted a survey on the students and English teachers from Ganzhou No.1 Middle School.By using the questionnaires(350 students and 35 English teachers),a test(260 students)and an interview(10 English teachers),the author did a study on the four questions:1.What’s the current situation of senior high school English teachers’ culture teaching?2.What’s the current situation of senior high school students’ culture learning?3.What’s students’ ability to express Chinese culture in English?4.What are the most effective culture teaching strategies and practices from the perspective of Cultural Character cultivation?After questionnaires,test,and interview,the data of them were analyzed by using SPSS 23.0.The results show that the current culture teaching in senior high school English class has the following problems:1.There are some serious problems about teachers’ culture teaching,including teachers’ own cultural qualities,teachers’ teaching concept,teachers’ teaching theory,teachers’ teaching mode,etc.;2.As the main body of learning,students have problems such as unclear learning objectives,vague understanding of culture learning,and inability to learn independently;3.Students’ ability to express Chinese culture in English is weak,and thephenomenon of “Aphasia of Chinese Culture” is obvious.In response to these existing problems of culture teaching,this article takes advantages of the opportunity of the New College Entrance Examination in which Cultural Character is emphasized,proposing a series of effective strategies from the three levels of teachers,students,and Chinese culture teaching:1.Promoting teachers’ own cultural qualities,changing teachers’ teaching concepts,updating teachers’ cultural teaching theory,enriching teachers’ teaching strategies,such as digging rich cultural materials to guide students to perceive culture,creating authentic cultural contexts to guide students to experience culture,highlighting the differences between Chinese and Western cultures to guide students to contrast culture,summing up the value orientation of multiculturalism to guide students to comprehend culture,and establishing a collaborative and interactive environment to guide students to use culture,etc.2.Inspiring students’ motivation of culture learning,cultivating students’ ability of culture learning,and advocating students’ autonomy and inquiry for culture learning,etc.3.Strengthening the teaching of excellent Chinese traditional culture and improving students’ ability to express Chinese culture in English. |
