| With the widespread of study on the backwash effect of language testing,the study of backwash effect is increasing in our country.But they are mainly for major English tests.There are few studies on the backwash effect of Junior School Graduation Test(JSGT)at home,especially about the reading comprehension.It is well known that the reading comprehension accounts for a part in the JSGT,which is very important for students and teachers.The thesis will focus on the backwash effect of JSGT from reading comprehension.Based on the theory of the hypothesis of backwash effect and ‘PPP’ model of backwash effect,the study tries to find out what impact will be caused in teaching and learning by the JSGT reading comprehension tests and how to develop its active backwash effect while decrease its negative backwash effect by using questionnaire survey and interview.The research results show that the JSGT reading comprehension plays not only an active role but also a negative backwash effect on middle school English teaching and learning.Reading comprehension tests in JSGT does not merely affect students and teachers as a whole,but also from attitudes,purpose and methods.In addition to this,its active backwash effect can promote the teachers to finish their teaching tasks,motivate their enthusiasm in teaching,increase students’ initiative in learning,broaden the horizon and enhance their ability to solve the practical problems.Its negative backwash effect lies in the monotonicity of some test items which increases their pressure.This makes them do a lot of exercises to get a higher score.According to the study results,the author makes some suggestions of middle school English teaching and learning,for instance,teachers should make the practical teaching aims clearly and choose the proper and effective teaching methods and so on. |
