In today's world,English of junior high school is an important link between primary school and senior high school.The traditional teaching model can no longer satisfies with the needs of student learning.Therefore,with the advancement of the new curriculum reform in China,the problem-based learning has been widely concerned by the educational circles.This model is based on constructiveness and discovery learning theory.And it emphasizes that learning activities should be added into purposeful questions to form a situation,so that students can be placed in a real situation and learn the knowledge through data collection and independent exploration,so as to form a problem awareness and develop their comprehensive learning ability.It is equal to the requirements of the new curriculum reform.The purpose of exploring problem-based learning is to find out the new ways for teachers to teach in class and new ways to guide students to learn independently,cooperatively and inquiringly.In order to verify whether the problem-based learning can be reasonably applied in English teaching of junior high school,this paper adopts the method of literature review and empirical study to make a beneficial attempt in unit 7 of grade eight in X school.The author first starts with the origin of the problem-based learning,understands the background,clarifies the research purpose and significance,then analyzes the research status of this mode in china and abroad through reading literature,and designs the research scheme and puts it into practice on this basis.In the process of practice,the experimental class and the control class were selected firstly.According to the questionnaire designed before the research question,uses each teaching model for the experimental class and the control class.After the experiment,test paper,questionnaire and interview were used to analyze and draw conclusions and reflections.The conclusion of the study shows that students' academic performance has been improved to some extent by adopting the problem-based teaching.They changed their learning style and began to become problem-conscious.What s more,students' interest in learning English has been improved,and this mode is especially suitable for students with strong learning ability.Combined with the research conclusions,the author also puts forward some suggestions for future English teaching:teachers should be in control of the time for discussion and demonstration,and they need to pay more attention to lesson preparation,and have higher requirements for the problem.
