| Reading plays a decisive role in the teaching of English in junior high schools.However,English reading teaching is still centered on teachers and ignores the principal status of students in many schools.And some teachers still use grammar translation method while teaching reading.What’s more,they only focus on students’ reading achievement.So it can’t cultivate students’ key competences well.Compared with traditional teaching methods,problem-based learning teaching method is a student-centered teaching method.It has a more obvious role in the development of learners’ English reading ability.This article aims to try to answer the following three questions: 1)How to use problem-based learning teaching method in English reading teaching in junior high schools? 2)Can problem-based learning teaching method improve the enthusiasm of junior middle school students in English reading and learning? 3)Can problem-based learning teaching method improve junior high school students’ English reading grades?Based on constructivism theory,cooperative learning theory,and humanism theory,this article will use 60 students of class(3)in a middle school in Chongqing as the research objects.The author will use problem-based learning teaching method to teach English reading to conduct experimental research.This paper will adopt the questionnaire survey method to carry out questionnaire surveys for students with the same questionnaire content before and after the experiment.Combined with the classroom observation method and the interview method,the author will investigate the students understanding of the current situation of English reading and learning,problem consciousness,ways to solve problems,the situation of classroom teaching to know their enthusiasm for English reading and learning.What’s more,there will be two English reading test scores before and after this experiment.The average score of English reading scores of 60 subjects in the experimental class will be compared with the average score of English reading scores of 245 students in the whole grade and combine with the data of questionnaire survey,the results of classroom observation and the content of interview,to judge whether problem-based learning teaching method can improve junior highschool students’ English reading grades.The experimental results show that: 1)Through the help of teachers,students became the main role for raising the reading questions,which realized the use of problem-based learning teaching method in English reading teaching in junior high school.2)The problem-based learning teaching method can improve junior high school students’ enthusiasm for English reading and study,encourage students to actively think about and find relevant information,allow students to actively participate in discussions and actively ask questions in the classroom.3)Problem-based learning teaching method can improve students’ English reading grades.Therefore,in our current junior high school English reading teaching,we should pay attention to and rationally use the problem-based learning teaching method,fully play its role,and improve students’ English reading ability. |
