Social sciences aims to study and explain various phenomena and summarize their development laws so as to spread knowledge and wisdom to the public.Therefore,studies on social sciences are of great significance in solving problems in the human society and promoting social development.The growth of translation of social sciences works in recent years calls for more efforts that should be made to develop the studies on the translation of this kind of text.In the context of globalization,China is becoming more active in the academic exchanges with other countries and placing more emphasis on the introduction and translation of foreign academic achievements,hoping to draw on excellent fruits in the world and to develop China by spreading them widely within the country.Recent years has seen a growth of the demand of translating social sciences works.HyperThinking:Creating a New Mindset for the Age of Networks(hereinafter referred to as HyperThinking)is a book written by Philip Weiss,who creates the concept of "hyperthinking." With personal experience and others' stories,Philip gives a systematic introduction of hyperthinking model,which provides a new way to think.Guided by the related translation theories and combined with personal translation experience,the author completed the translation of Hyperthinking.In this report on translation practice,the author focuses on the analysis of typical examples at the lexical and syntactic levels.This translation practice aims to learn and master the application of related translation theories and skills in the social science texts.Through this E-C translation task,the author hopes to have a deeper understanding of social science texts with multiple textual functions,and to explore how to translate coinages and polysemous words and how to deal with complex sentences and dashes in English,so as to convey the original information accurately and lead more readers to become hyperthinkers.
