A Report On The English-chinese Translation Of Racial Theories In Social Science(Chapter 1-2)

This is a report on the English-Chinese translation of Racial Theorzies in Social Science:A Systemic Racism Critique(Chapter 1-2).The book was published by the Routledge Press in April,2016 and written by Joe R.Feagin and Sean Elias who are contemporary American Social scientists.The authors of this book proposed a systemic analysis about the previous and contemporary mainstream racial theories.Most of the social scientists’ analysis to mainstream race and society remains stunted and uncritical.The two authors studied the representative social scientists’ theories of race and proposed their own critical views,which helps readers understand racial matters at the macro perspective.The book selected for this translation project is a work of academic social science.There are many difficulties in the process of translating,including many proper nouns and quotations;long sentences with complicated structure;attributive clause and translation issues such as how to make the target text smooth,logical and strict in order that the target readers can understand the version well.For these problems,the author of this report analyzes the translation methods such as thick translation strategy and the skills to deal with the translation of long sentences and attributive clause as well as ensure the smoothness of the target text along with analyzing the example sentences.The author of this report has acquired much from this translation project.Firstly,the author of the report has got to know more about the racial matters in social science and the approaches to analyzing social matters.Then,the level of translation has been improved and translation experience has been gathered by the translator.Finally,through writing translation report,the author of the report has provided applicative translation strategies to resolve difficulties in translating works of academic social science.
