A Practice Report On English Translation Of Tour Commentary For Guling Mountain Scenic Spot

Entrusted by the Culture,Radio,Television and Tourism Bureau of Qi County(former Cultural Relics and Tourism Bureau of Qi County)in Hebi City,Henan Province,the translator undertook the English translation practice on Tour Commentary for Guling Mountain Scenic Spot and finished the translation practice report.The source text is a tour commentary introducing Guling Mountain scenic spot in Qi County,aiming at enhancing the popularity of Guling Mountain scenic spot,attracting tourists from home and abroad for visiting,publicizing the Central Plains civilization,and spreading the distinctive local culture overseas under the background of "telling China's story well".This paper selects George Steiner's Hermeneutic Fourfold Motion as theoretical guidance and completes the translation practice with the aid of Power Echo,the computer aided translation software.Under the guidance of George Steiner's Hermeneutic Fourfold Motion:"trust","invasion","incorporation" and "compensation",the translator uses transliteration method to translate names of persons and places,and uses transliteration+literal translation,literal translation+free translation method to deal with culture-loaded words.Literal translation+annotation method is used to translate the dynasties names,restructuring and voice conversion methods are used to deal with longer sentences in the source text.The report is mainly colposed of four chapters:the first chapter is the description of the translation project,including the introduction to the unit commissioned and contents of the source text,the analyses of the features of the source text,the purpose and significance of the translation as well as requirements of the client.The second chapter is a description of the task process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process,post-translation quality control and difficulties in the translation practice.The third chapter introduces George Steiner's Hermeneutic Motion,including development of Hermeneutics and George Steiner's Hermeneutic Fourfold Motion.The fourth chapter is the most important chapter of the report,combining with translation theory,analyzes the cases in translation practice.Through the translation of difficulties at word level,sentence level and textual level,the translation strategies and methods used in translation cases are analyzed.Finally,the translator summarizes experience gained in the translation process,shortcomings in translation,and puts forward some suggestions for future translation practice.
