In recent years, under the guidance of “Chinese culture going out”strategy,it is the bounden duty of translators to carry forward the traditional culture through the translation of classical poetry, leading to the wide acceptance in the world. However, due to different and complex historical backgrounds, the misreading and distortion of the classical poetry in the process of “going out” are inevitable. In view of this situation,Chinese professor Xie Tianzhen puts forward the famous Medio-translatology theory, which is a study on literary translation from the cultural level, closely related to the “creative treason” in the translation. The relevant theories have been universally recognized in the academic world. The author selects some representative works of Su Shi,an outstanding writer and politician of the Northern Song Dynasty,to explore translation strategies from the perspective of Medio-translatology.In the thesis, the writer makes a comparative study on the different English versions of Su Shi’s poems through data studies, text contrast and induction, and analyzes the creative treason of different translators from two aspects of content and form. Then the writer introduces the translation strategies and methods commonly used in English versions of Su Shi’s poems in order to provide references for English translation studies of Song lyrics in the future. The English versions in this thesis are mainly from the domestic translator Xu Yuanchong and foreign translators. The first chapter briefly introduces research background, research methods and significance of English translation of Su Shi’s poems. The second chapter introduces the research status of English translation of Su Shi’s poems from two aspects of home and abroad with the help of abroad academic search systems like Springer,SAGE journal,Jstor and domestic ones like CNKI,WanFang andSuper Star. The third chapter introduces Medio-translatology and its key theory of “Creative Treason”.The fourth chapter discusses creative treason in English versions of Su Shi’s poems from two aspects: content treason and form treason.Content treason is embodied in translation of four-character structure,culture-loaded words, cultural images and sentences without subject.Form treason is embodied in metrical poetry and free verse. The fifth chapter expounds translation strategies to achieve creative treason under the guidance of Medio-translatology.Domestication strategy is adopted creatively in many ways: omission, addition, free translation, substitution of image, adjustment of word order and paraphrase of sentence.Foreignization strategy embodies itself in transliteration, transplant of image and consistency of word order. The sixth chapter makes a conclusion of this thesis and points out some shortcomings.
