Since 1980s,there has been continuous voice of Chinese literature "going-out"in Chinese academic field,however,the reality shows that it is a.difficult way to go.The remarkable thing brings hope for the policy of "Chinese Culture Going Out".Among quantities of Mo Yan’s works,Red Sorghum is one of successful book in terms of "going out".In 1993,Professor Tianzhen Xie published his monograph Yijiexue(Medio-translatology),which marked that the brand-new interdisciplinary was put forward formally.The focus of theory theory is not on translation skills in terms of language but a cultural publicity and communication activity.It mainly studies the"creative treason" in translated works as well as the reception and publicity situation of translation version in target country.Xiaoying Bao,Tianzhen Xie’s student,further develops Medio-translatology,especially in spreading and reception research called the Mode of Medio-translatology.This thesis takes Honggaoliangjiazu of Mo Yan and Red Sorghum of Howard Goldblatt as the research object and adopts quantitative,qualitative,documentary method,text comparison method,deduction and induction to analyze the"translation" and "medio" parts.The chapter two mainly adopts documentary method to conclude and classify all of theses related to Honggaoliangjiazu.For the"translation" part,the author is going to compare the Chinese version and English version and apply the "creative treason" of Medio-translatology theory to explain the"translator’s creative treason","target readers’ creative treason" and "receiving context’s creative treason" in detail by listing enough examples to demonstrate the translation strategies of omission,mistranslation as well as compilation and its applicability,which makes the English version more readable and exotic.For the "medio" part,the "Mode of Medio-translatology" theory consisting of the content,the subject,the channels,the target readers and the effect of Medio-translatology is adopted to analyze the publicity effect of Red Sorghum in America by the author by applying quantitative and qualitative research method.The thesis mainly discusses the choice standards of spreading content and translator,the variety of spreading channel,the reading preference of American readers to Chinese literature,and the data and reading comments of spreading effect collected from OCLC,Amazon Website and so on that can be proved the success of publicity.By comparing the customer review of Red Sorghum and other literature works of Yu Hua and Su Tong that published at the same time with Red Sorghum,Red Sorghum gets the most positive reviews;Red Sorghum also has the most library collection by comparing Mo Yan’s other works.At the same time,Red Sorghum gets many international awards and attracts American magazines attention to criticize Red Sorghum.By combining the theory of Medio-translatology with the Chinese and English version of Red Sorghum as well as by analyzing the spreading process of Red Sorghum,the main aim of the thesis is to provide constructive suggestions for"Chinese Literature Going Out".
