| Literary translation of the original work extends its immanent significance in literary world. Due to this, Chinese literature in the last century has fully absorbed nutrition from international literature. Various styles and artistic achievements have led to another boom of the Chinese novel production in the history. Meanwhile, a large number of Chinese novels, reflecting contemporary Chinese national conditions, political systems and literary theories, have been introduced to Europe and America. And that whether foreign receptors will accept or exclude these translated literary works is worth an in-depth exploration and research into the medio-translatory of Chinese novel in America. This thesis aims to explore the highly selective and manipulative nature in the choice of translated works, and to demonstrate the factors constraint the selection of foreign receptors. It explores the cultural interaction between China and America, and studies the dropout, transmogrification, expansion and multiplication of cultural information in the process of translating, and leads out the factors which restraints it.This thesis examines the translation of the representative works of two important literary schools in China since the 1980s—Educated Youth Fiction and Pioneering Fiction. Based on the the new concept“creative treason”introduced by Xie Tianzhen, this thesis adopts both quantitative analysis of their representative texts translated into English and qualitative analysis of cross-disciplinary approaches of translation and cultural studies, comparative literary criticism and communication studies. By means of comparing the different influnce caused by both the original works and translated works both in domestic and from aboard, it analyzes the elements of reception which impact the creative treason in translating works: political ideology and cultural cognitive model of American receptors. |
