As schools and teachers pay increasing attention to the national compulsory education curriculum reform and the development needs of students'key competencies,a number of schools and teachers are striving to explore innovative classroom teaching models to meet the needs of their students' English learning.The traditional teaching model of teacher-centeredness has been gradually withdrawn from its historical stage.Instead,it is a new student-centered teaching model that gives full play to the development of students'independent learning and innovation ability.The English curriculum standard of primary school education advocates that primary school English teaching should effectively help students to stimulate and cultivate learning interest,build up learning confidence,have good learning habits,develop independent learning ability,and form effective learning strategies.As a possible means and carrier for schools and teachers to conduct efficient classroom teaching,stimulate students' interest in learning and develop students'independent learning ability,a new teaching mode of learning guide has been favored by many schools and their teachers.The so-called learning guide model is a kind of classroom teaching mode,with learning plan as the carrier,classroom teaching as the setting,teachers' guidance as the motivator,and cultivation of students' independent learning as the main objective.Adopting this teaching mode,teachers and students work together to fulfill teaching and learning tasks.In China,most of the researches in the field of learning guide are limited to English teaching practices in middle and high schools,and few are conducted regarding primary school English teaching.Moreover,most of the researches focus on theoretical and specific teaching researches.Therefore,the author applied the teaching mode of learning guide into senior grade English teaching in a primary school,trying to explore a feasible teaching mode that could effectively improve English learning interest and performance of senior students.The teaching practice of one semester demonstrated that compared with the traditional teaching mode,the teaching mode of learning guide significantly improved the English performance of primary school senior students.The application of learning guide also played a positive role in promoting students' English learning interest,such as enhancing their learning confidence and cultivating their learning habits,for most students could actively finish English homework,preview in advance and speak up in class.Learning guide takes students' independent learning as the main body,which helped students to develop from the current learning level to the potential learning level.It is an optional and even ideal teaching mode for senior grade English teaching in primary schools.
