With the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength and soft power,English plays a very important role in further expanding China’s international influence and spreading Chinese culture to the world.Pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar are the "troika" for learning English well, and pronunciation is the material shell of language and the basis for the existence and development of language.Primary school is the basic stage for students to learn English pronunciation. It is very necessary for teachers to teach English pronunciation. In addition, pronunciation teaching meets the requirements of the dual nature of English curriculum, which can improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing ability and cultivate comprehensive humanistic quality. However, there are few studies on English Phonetics Teaching in primary school. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to find out how pupils’ English pronunciation looks, what problems exist in pronunciation, what causes the problems, and how teachers should solve these problems. On the basis of reading the relevant literature at home and abroad and summarizing the current research results on English pronunciation, the author conducted phonetic tests, interviews and observed more than30 actual English classes with 60 fifth graders from n primary school in Hohhot,Inner Mongolia, and found that the students’ phonetic appearance was poor, with mixed British and American sounds,no distinction between long and short sounds, substitution of similar vowels, phoneme confusion, consonant addition or swallowing problems, and the lack of stress linked intonation. The author further analyzes the causes of these problems from three aspects: the teaching materials, the negative transfer of Chinese pinyin and the students’ own pronunciation characteristics. The main reasons are: there is a phenomenon of mixed British and American sounds in the teaching materials; In Chinese phonetic alphabet, the opposite phonemes of long and short tones are missing, the phonemes are not completely corresponding and empty, the syllable composition is different, the suprasegmental phoneme is missing, and the students’ own different pronunciation methods and habits.Aiming at the pronunciation defects of the fifth grade students in N primary school, this paper puts forward corresponding countermeasures, mainly including systematically sorting out the differences between English and American pronunciation, comparing teaching to overcome the negative transfer of Chinese Pinyin, and grasping the students’ pronunciation characteristics to accurately correct pronunciation, hoping to provide guidance for primary school English pronunciation teaching, and help students correct their wrong pronunciation and improve their pronunciation. This paper consists of five parts: the first chapter introduces the importance, literature review, research purpose and significance, and research methods of English pronunciation teaching in primary schools from the perspective of research background, the "instrumentality" and "humanism" of English curriculum, and the curriculum reform under the "double reduction" policy; The second chapter briefly introduces the current situation of English Phonetics Teaching in Saihan District of Hohhot; The third chapter summarizes the problems existing in English pronunciation teaching in N primary school and analyzes the causes; The fourth chapter puts forward some effective strategies for English phonetics teaching aiming at the pronunciation problems and reasons of N primary school students; The fifth chapter summarizes the full text.
