A Translation Report From The Perspective Of Cultural Translation Theory

The original text of this translation report is excerpted from The Analysis of Wine Culture in ‘Zen-tea Drinking’,which is the third chapter of Exploration of Chinese Wine Culture by Wang Shizuo,Yang Ming and Huang Ping.The text that is translated mainly focuses on the cultural spirit of traditional Chinese tea ceremony and Zen,basing on the connotation of Chinese wine culture,involving the history of Zen and tea,and the relation between conducting oneself and Zen-tea spirit.The author comes across a large number of culture-loaded words of Buddhism,four-character words and Chinese ancient books,which are all of strong sense of cultural characteristics,so the author chooses cultural translation theory as theoretical direction,and uses cultural functional equivalence in translation as principle,conducts deep understanding and accurate explanation towards cultural factors behind the original text.Through detailed analysis and solution of specific translation cases,the author adopts various translating strategies such as literal translation,free translation,contextual amplification and other skills to solve translating problems,and draws the conclusion of translation strategies and specific solutions towards culture-loaded words of Buddhism and Chinese ancient books contained in the original text.Finally,through the summary and reflection of this translation report,the author realizes although there are still a lot of defects after the careful modification and embroidery of the original text,this translation practice can help improve the translation ability as well as enhance the quality of future practice,and provide other translation enthusiasts with helps as experiences and references.
