This paper is a translation practice report about the problems and solutions that I have encountered in the translation of some chapters of Chinese Classical Myths.Chinese Classical Myths is composed of many traditional Chinese fairy tales. There is a lot of culture-loaded words which have no corresponding English expression in this book, which lead to the cultural default and cultural differences and increased the difficulties of the translation. This requires the translator to adopt appropriate strategies to help target readers to understand. One of the distinctive features of the source text is that there are numerous culture-loaded words. In view of this, the author takes cultural elements as the unit of translation under the guidance of Cultural Translation Theory. In translation,to cope with cultural default and cultural differences, the present author adopted the strategies of transliteration with annotation, literal translation with annotation, amplification, cultural substitution and cultural transplantation for cultural default and cultural differences,so as to facilitate the readers' understanding and acceptance of the translation. The report mainly includes a general introduction to the project, the translation process which contains pre-translation preparation and the stages of translation, the Cultural Translation Theory as well as the analysis of strategies and methods used in this translation practice.Through the analysis, the author found that Cultural Translation Theory can be applied to select appropriate translation strategies to convey the characteristics of the this kind of Chinese traditional culture text as much as possible.
