A Project Report On The C-E Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Workplace Safety

The translation of local laws and regulations is meaningful not only in promoting international exchanges and cross-cultural cooperation among countries,but also in enhancing China's international image as a law-ruled as well as contributing China's legal wisdom to global govemance.This project report focuses on the C-E translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Workplace Safety and aims to analyze the features of local regulations and legislative texts.Additionally,on this basis,it seeks to identify some crucial problems and difficulties in the translation practices and to offer some corresponding solutions to the translation problems.The difficulty in translating this Regulations can be generally summarized at the lexical and the syntactic level.From the perspective of lexicon,the main difficulties lies in the massive use of fuzzy expressions and terminology concerning workplace safety.The frequency of "de"(?)-structured sentences and long sentences are two main problems at the syntactic level.To cope with the problems and difficulties during the translation process,some applicable and flexible methods are proposed,as guided by the preciseness and equivalence principle as well as the consistency and identity principle.Equivalent translation and substituting are suggested to deal with the problems in fuzzy expressions.As for those terminology on workplace safety,it is recommended to follow parallel texts,to rearrange and to search in databases in order to keep the consistency and identity in the translation.In respect to the sentences with the "de"(?)structure,adverbial clauses of condition introduced by "where","when" and "if" are useful.In the case of long sentences,following the stylized-structure as well as splitting and restructuring is two effective methods adopted.By summarizing the translation methods adopted in the translation process,this project is likely to perform as a paramount reference for future translation practices in the field of local laws and regulations.Meanwhile,translators are suggested to strive to be as professional as possible in the relevant realms,to constantly cultivate their interdisciplinary abilities,and further to make great contributions to the translation of local laws and regulations.
