As an important sub-category of modern Chinese adverbs,time adverb is complex in its internal classification,illusory in its meanings,flexible in its grammatical forms,and limited in many aspects.Therefore,it have always been the focus of Chinese teaching and learning.This thesis is based on the case study of time adverb and the needs of teaching practice,comprehensively using descriptive analysis,quantitative and qualitative analysis,corpus analysis and questionnaire survey method,taking a group of similar words("jiangyao" "jiuyao" "kuaiyao")whose meanings and usages are similar as the research objects,based on the theory of "small triangle" to describing them from multiple perspectives,combining with the error corpus from the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus of Beijing Language and Culture University and the questionnaire survey,analyzing the types and causes of errors,giving some appropriate teaching and learning suggestions.The research in this thesis is mainly divided into five parts.The first and second parts are the introduction part.This section points out the reasons for the title and the significance of the research.It also sorts out the past researches by scholars and experts on the nature,scope,classification,semantic function and teaching of the time adverb,which determines the research object.I also presented my research ideas,methods and corpus sources.The third part is the "small triangle" investigation of "jiangyao" "jiuyao" "kuaiyao".This part comprehensively discriminates the similarities and differences between this group of time adverbs from three aspects.First,in the grammatical forms,describing this group of time adverbs from four aspects which are grammatical status,omission form,the nature and the scope of the modified words and co-occurrence with other components;Second,for the meanings,we mainly explain their meanings from two levels,one is general meanings and the other is characteristic meanings discriminating the subtle differences.Finally,from the perspective of pragmatic value,the rhetorical values and context values of the three words are examined.The fourth part is the error analysis of jiangyao" "jiuyao" "kuaiyao".In this chapter,we first sort out the corpus in the questionnaire survey and the HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus of the Beijing Language and Culture University,and then summarize the types of errors and explore the causes of the errors.The fifth part is the teaching suggestions.we propose some appropriate teaching suggestions and teaching strategies for teachers,teaching materials and students.
