Interpreting plays a vital role in modern international communication.Put forward by Seleskovitch and Lederer, the interpretive theory of translation is the first interpreting theory which introduces psychology into language research and proposes triangle model. In the triangle model, the process of interpreting is divided into three steps:comprehension, deverbalization, and reformulation. The interpretive theory of translation considers interpreting as a cross-cultural communication requiring the interpreter to focus on delivering meaning rather than words,so the interpreter must deverbalize the original texts. With the rising of China's international status, the concept of the ancient Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by General Secretary Xi Jinping have attracted more and more international attention.Till now,the Belt and Road Forum has 49 participants and has yielded fruitful results.Under the guidance of the interpretive theory of translation, the author carries out mock interpreting of the lecture the Silk Road and the Belt and Road Initiative delivered by Professor Ge Jianxiong. This paper consists of five parts, including task description, theoretical basis, interpreting process, case study and conclusion. In the first chapter, the author gives a brief introduction to the main content and significance of the task.In the second chapter, the author introduces the origin and development of the interpretive theory of translation. In the third chapter, the interpreting process is introduced from three aspects, including pre-interpreting,while-interpreting and post-interpreting.In the case study, five kinds of solutions are proposed to deal with the problems arising in the interpreting:paraphrasing, explanatory supplement, structural reorganization, processing of logic and omission.Due to the differences between Chinese culture and English culture, when it comes to the translation of culture-loaded words, paraphrasing is the best choice.Meanwhile, belonging to Sino-Tibetan language family, the grammar of Chinese is totally different from that of English, which makes it necessary to change sentence structure during interpreting. In addition,to deal with cultural differences, the interpreter must have to leave out the translation of some of content.Furthermore, based on the analyses on mock interpreting, the author also makes revisions to the mistranslation and finally comes into conclusion, hoping this practice is helpful to the improvement of interpreting ability.
