The report is based on the translation of Water Resources:Foundations of Contemporary Environmental Studies. The author of the book,Anisfeld, gives an account of the fundamental interactions between humans and water resources. The ecological concepts involved in the book are quiet consistent with the socialist ecological concept in the report of the 19th National Congress CPC,which is very beneficial to the construction of ecological civilization in China. The translation of this book introduces the status quo of water conservation and sustainable development in the US water resources field, which can help domestic experts and scholars to study in this field. This translation practice report consists of four chapters, which are translation task description, translation process description, translation case study and summary. In order to better restore the content of the original text, the translator adopts Vermeer's Skopos theory throughout the translation process.Starting from the three principles of Skopos theory and clarifying the purpose of translation, the translator adopts translation methods such as literal translation with footnotes, zero translation, syntactic linearity, division to translate abbreviations frequently found in water conservancy texts, terms in water conservancy and the special sentence patterns of water conservancy English with accuracy and scrutiny. Therefore, the translator ensures the readability of the water conservancy text and meanwhile preserves the characteristics of water conservancy English.Though there are many deficiencies in this translation practice, the translator improves his ability to translate scientific and technical texts, especially water-based texts at the same time.In addition, the translator has also made a slight contribution to the water conservancy English corpus.
