| Known as the “belles-lettres”,essays are short in length and free in form,which boast elegant words and “free form and focused spirit” feature.The contents are usually about the author’s perception of the life with aesthetic qualities.English translation of Chinese essays are to represent the aesthetic elements of the source language in the target language,for which Translation Aesthetics has been proved to be an appropriate theory to be applied in English translation of the Chinese essays.Translation Aesthetics is a combination of translation theories and aesthetics.Although Translation Aesthetic thoughts could be found from the translation theories in early periods at home and abroad.Professor Liu Miqing who,on the basis of traditional and modern Aesthetic thoughts from both China and the West,put forward his own views on Translation Aesthetics which enriched contemporary Chinese Translation Aesthetics.He believes that literary translation is an art of language reproduction,and it is necessary to reproduce the beauty of the original in another language,so that literary literary translation is the process of aesthetic reproduction.Translation Aesthetics emphasizes the importance of Aesthetic Subject,Aesthetic Object as well as Aesthetic Consciousness which provides a theoretical basis for Aesthetic Representation.Based on Translation Aesthetics,the author of the thesis attempts to translate the first four chapters of the Tastes of Everyday Life written by Taiwanese writer and artist Jiang Xun.After the analysis of the “formal” and “non-formal” systems with examples from the translation,the thesis explores how to represent the beauties of the source language and finally summarizes some translation strategies in essay translation guided by the Translation Aesthetics,hoping to provide a certain reference for the study of essay translation and Translation Aesthetics. |
